Teaching experience

During my 30 years’ experience in primary education, I have taught every year group across the primary age-range from Reception to Year 6 in York and North Yorkshire schools. I currently work as an independent primary mathematics consultant.

What makes you a Maths Specialist?

I have worked as a primary mathematics consultant for the last eight years supporting schools across the country with teaching, training and with resources. I am passionate about children (and adults) developing deep understanding and a love of mathematics. I’ve been pioneering an approach, called Number Fun, that includes the use of story, song, visualisation and humour to help achieve this. My website, www.numberfun.com, has links to the support I offer to schools and parents, including online portals through which schools and parents can access over 250 song video presentations with accompanying resources. During the first Lockdown, I presented a daily live show on YouTube for EYFS and KS1. All the YouTube videos, including those for KS2, can be viewed on youtube/c/numberfun.

I’m a big Colchester United fan, a keen sportsman, a Christian and I love watching Star Trek!
