All of our tutors are experienced teachers who are Maths specialists. We plan each session carefully around the needs of each individual child. Our online Zoom sessions offer each child a weekly one-to-one lesson with a Maths teacher.

One to one tuition sessions are conducted on Zoom and cost:

  • £27.00 for 45 minutes

  • £36.00 for one hour (KS2 to GCSE)

  • £40.00 for one hour (A-Level)

At Tutors that Count, our experienced teachers have a full understanding of the requirements of  GCSE and A-Level Maths and Further Maths, and how to up-level to get those all important grades. Recent Reviews from our Parents

As an ex-teacher myself I was thrilled when Sharon was the teacher in charge of my daughter Isabelle’s learning in Maths at Primary School.  Sharon has a deep passion for guiding students to achieve their full potential. Not only did she inspire Isabelle to want to learn a higher level of Maths (from a curriculum beyond her actual Year 6 age) but she engaged Isabelle in a way that was fun and interesting. This set the seed for Isabelle to be interested in all STEM subjects and relish the puzzles and challenges she finds at senior school.I can’t recommend Sharon highly enough and we were extremely sad when Isabelle finally left her nurturing hands to move on to Senior School.

Now I can see how Sharon teaches I can see why Katie is so passionate about her Maths. Sharon uses a positive teaching style throughout. She is patient, encourages children to have a go and is very clear on explanations. She is great at checking understanding. There is lots of discussion and laughter heard too which is fundemental!  Sharon clearly has a natural talent at reading a child’s learning style, confidence level and can clearly and competently work with children with different abilities and personalites. She puts the child’s welfare first and can tell when a child is tired or needs a break from tutoring. She is a consummate professional. Sharon is an amazing role model for Katie who is interested in STEM subjects. Katie can see from Sharon that a girl can aim high and achieve if she plans, works hard and establishes the love of life long learning.

Meet Ian

Teaching Experience

For much of my adult life, I worked in the field of Electronics, designing sonar systems, neural networks, radar and solving other digital signal processing problems both in the UK and in Canada. I moved into management and built and ran engineering teams both in defence research and offshore surveys. After a few years working back in the UK, I decided I needed a change and trained as a teacher, returning to a career path I had considered many years before. I have now been teaching mathematics to GCSE level in a secondary school for the past six years.

Why do you tutor Maths?

As a research engineer, I used mathematics every day to solve problems for complex products, mainly in the Defence Industry. It is this love of problem solving and interest in Maths that has driven my desire to share my knowledge with students. I hope to at least prepare them for their onward academic journey and into the work place, but perhaps for some I might inspire them to study the subject further.

Other interests

I enjoy walking and going on holiday to remote places. In my younger days, I played rugby and football and in Canada I even attempted ice hockey! I also play chess and enjoy sudoku which is much kinder on my body.

As Head of Mathematics at a school in Lincolnshire I raised the attainment of GCSE Mathematics in the department from 38% A*-C to 74% A*-C. I now specialise in online Maths tuition.

Why do you tutor Maths?

I have a degree in Mathematics and a PGCE from the University of Nottingham. I have taught Mathematics for over 15 years. I have always had a passionate interest in the subject and am inspired to help others see the beauty of Maths and understand the many real-life applications of the subject.

I have an empathetic style and work with students who have been struggling, to help develop their confidence in a supportive environment. With more-able students, I provide the stretch and challenge needed to ensure they meet their full potential. I adapt my approach and style as required; all tuition is tailored to the individual needs of the student. I am flexible and will be available to discuss the student’s progress and set work between sessions as required.

Recent Reviews from our Parents

Jane started tutoring my daughter, who was top set GCSE, after she achieved poorly in her mock exams. Jane was able to get my daughter to understand the higher concepts and to really unpick the more complex questions. By the time of the GCSE exams, she was confident, happy and expecting good results. My daughter achieved a Grade 8, her love of Maths was reignited and she decided to continue by studying A-Level Maths.

By Lynne (Mother of student)

What can I say, when I asked my son what he thought of Jane he said 5/5 with no hesitation. She has made him so much more confident going into his maths re-take. This time he said he answered all the questions, made sure he put all his workings out down, which is a big improvement on his previous two attempts.  I would not have any problems recommending Jane and Tutors that Count to anyone. I just wish we had known of them earlier. And, by the way, my son passed his Maths GCSE retake and has now gone on to get an electrical apprenticeship- thank you Jane!
