All of our tutors are experienced teachers who are English specialists. We plan each session carefully around the needs of each individual child. Our online Zoom sessions offer each child a weekly one-to-one lesson with an experienced English teacher. We can also offer face to face sessions in the Beccles / Bungay area. One to one tuition sessions are conducted on Zoom / Teams and cost:

£40.00 for one hour (online)
£45.00 per hour (Face to Face)

Meet Alfie

Teaching Experience

I am an experienced English teacher and tutor with a strong background in secondary education, including time spent as a Head of Department. Over the course of my teaching career, I have worked with students across a wide range of abilities, helping them to build confidence, improve academic outcomes, and develop a genuine understanding of English language and literature. My classroom experience has given me a deep understanding of curriculum requirements, exam board expectations, and the challenges students face at different stages of their learning.

Why do you tutor English?

Alongside my school-based roles, I have extensive experience working one-to-one with pupils, tailoring lessons to meet individual needs and learning styles. I place a strong emphasis on building positive, trusting relationships with students, as I believe progress comes most readily when young people feel supported, understood, and encouraged. Whether working towards GCSE success, closing gaps in knowledge, or rebuilding confidence after a difficult experience with education, my approach is calm, structured, and student-centred.

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching for over 25 years and still feel as passionate about it as when I first started out! Having always known it was the right vocation for me, I quickly pursued a career path which led to me becoming BBC’s Secondary Teacher of the Year. After this, I worked as a Lead Practitioner and County Adviser for English. Furthermore, I have been a Head of Department in three schools. More recently, I spent five years teaching English in a prestigious private school in the Middle East. I moved to Qatar in order to experience a new culture and support my husband who is a Principal there. This school I worked at follows the British Curriculum. The parents are probably some of the most discerning customers in the world; they expected their child to benefit from the very best lessons and educational diet. Most of my students were able to sit their exams a year early.

Why do you tutor English?

I understand how to make subject matter relatable and ‘entertaining’. Additionally, I very much believe in engendering a great rapport with each student. Personalised learning is incredibly important. Whilst, at the same time, ensuring Curriculum or syllabus requirements are followed, tutoring enables students to work at their own pace and gives a tutor the freedom for students to take control of their own learning path and pursue their own related interests.

Other Interests

I travel a lot. Although, I am unafraid to admit travel a lot. Although, I am unafraid to admit, I am a big Disney fan and (when funds allow) am always planning my next trip to Florida in order to visit Walt Disney World. I love to swim, also, and visit the gym.
